TrainingThe Association maintains a rigorous Wah Lum training regimen balanced by a philosophy that stresses patience, self-control, fellowship, and hard work. Below are some of the classes that prospective students may choose from: |
||||||||
Beginner ClassNew students must first learn the system’s fundamental exercises, basic stances, and core techniques. This knowledge will continue to serve them as they progress through the program. Challenge ClassThere are no shortcuts to learning Kung Fu. This intermediate-level class emphasizes muscular development through body-weight exercises, dynamic tension, contact drills, and cardiovascular endurance. General Class - Traditional FundamentalsThe spirit of Kung Fu is experienced at the intersection of effectiveness and grace. This class emphasizes the core principles of the system’s hand and weapon forms, which together provide the traditional martial theory of the Wah Lum system. Sparring & Self-Defense ClassThe confidence to defend yourself and others is one of the many benefits of learning Kung Fu. This class transforms the theories into practical application by extracting techniques from their more traditional settings and allowing them to be used in a more realistic environment. Youth ProgramThe full Wah Lum curriculum is available for kids and young adults, ages 6-16. Youth students build body coordination, discipline, and self esteem while learning traditional Wah Lum martial techniques and weapons training.

Ranking and CertificationThere is no belt system in the Wah Lum organization; attaining the next rank or title has little place in a training environment where self-improvement is the ultimate goal. There are both written and physical tests that help recognize a student’s current understanding of the Wah Lum system. Private TrainingThe Wah Lum curriculum develops accomplished and well-rounded students. However, for those who seek specialized instruction, or just wish to tailor a program to fit their schedule and goals, the Association provides private training (one-on-one instruction) with Sifu Rosen in a wide variety of areas such as Tai Chi, Executive Kickboxing, and Self-defense. Tai Chi Chu'anTai Chi is a complete Chinese martial art system on its own, yet it possesses certain qualities that stimulate overall health and wellness, making it the perfect exercise for anyone. Providing cardiovascular development, body toning, joint massage, and a means to center one’s emotional ballast, Tai Chi is meditation through movement, culminating in the longevity of life itself. Community & CultureThe Association believes strongly in supporting the surrounding community. All interested school members have an opportunity to learn traditional lion & dragon dancing, as well as join the Wah Lum Demo Team. From celebrating Chinese New Year and the Dragon Boat Festival to performing on stage at the John Hancock Hall and colleges in the New England area, Wah Lum practitioners are recognized throughout the Greater Boston area as committed supporters to the community. |
